Asmongold urges Twitch to ban all driving streams

Twitch and Kick streamer Asmongold has called for the platform to completely ban creators from driving while live streaming, describing the rule as simple common sense in the wake of ExtraEmily’s recent near-miss incident.

In comments shared widely this week, Asmongold argued that Twitch should prohibit the practice outright. “It shouldn’t be political….it's just simply common sense,” he said while discussing the risks of distracted driving on stream.

The remarks follow a June 28 incident involving Twitch streamer ExtraEmily, also known as Emily Xuechun Zhang and a member of the OTK collective. During an IRL stream, ExtraEmily appeared to look at her chat while driving her Tesla and narrowly avoided colliding with a Mazda SUV. She acknowledged the error on stream, saying it was her fault after disabling Autopilot.

Twitch issued ExtraEmily a 24-hour suspension for the distracted driving, her third related ban. After returning, she apologized and said she would minimize driving segments and keep chat off if she did drive on stream.

Asmongold first responded days after the clip went viral. On X he wrote that Twitch needed to “just ban streaming and driving entirely.” He suggested streamers who want to go live while traveling should take an Uber or have someone else drive. “At best it is a neutral effect, at worst, it causes accidents and kills people. Pretty easy logical decision,” he posted.

Other creators echoed the call. YouTuber Jesse Cox said every person who streams and drives should be permanently banned, citing the potential for deadly lawsuits against Twitch. Streamer InTheLittleWood and others similarly urged an outright prohibition, recommending hired drivers for IRL travel content.

Twitch’s community guidelines already prohibit dangerous or distracted driving and handling streaming equipment while operating a vehicle. The platform has issued temporary suspensions in multiple cases, including prior incidents involving ExtraEmily and others such as StableRonaldo. Critics argue short bans are insufficient and that the platform continues to host and profit from the content.

Asmongold has doubled down in recent streams and posts. He stated that companies like Twitch should face accountability for knowingly allowing dangerous activity, claiming the platform enables high-profile streamers who break traffic laws and endanger lives. In one clip he said he cannot wait for a streamer to cause a fatal accident so Twitch can be sued, arguing the site has created incentives around the practice and is partially liable.

He has also noted that ExtraEmily is not the only or worst offender, pointing to other streamers who have impeded traffic or broken laws more aggressively while live. Asmongold and fellow creators have repeatedly recommended safer alternatives such as passenger setups or professional drivers.

ExtraEmily later hired a personal driver for some segments. Asmongold previously reacted positively to the news before learning additional details about the arrangement.

The debate continues as IRL driving content remains common on Twitch despite the safety concerns and existing rules. No full platform-wide ban has been announced.
